An Integrated Ecological Approach to Mapping Variations in Collectivism Within China: Introducing the Triple-Line Framework

Measurable regional variations in collectivism have been found across the Chinese mainland, challenging simple classification of China as a “collectivistic society” cross-national studies. In previous studies, small number distal or proximal ecological factors used to explain these collectivism. However, there has little consensus on which best predict this article, authors propose “triple-line framework,” an integrated perspective This framework divides into four regions using three lines—the Hu Huanyong Line, Great Wall and Qinling–Huaihe Line—according their ecological, historical, social characteristics. A growing body empirical research is largely consistent with framework.
